Occupation: Lumber dealer. (From "History of Wabash County, Indiana" pub. 1884, pg. 365) ROBERT M. DONALDSON, druggist, La Gro, was born in Mercer County, Penn. August 15, 1826. His parents were isaac and Rebecca (Shannon) Donaldson. They were natives of Pennsylvannia, of Scotch descent. Mr. Donaldson received such education as the common schools of that period afforded until arriving at the age of twenty, when he served an apprenticeship of two and half years at the tanner's and currier's trade, which, after mastering, he conducted for some eight years in Wells County, Ind., where he had removed in 1850. Mr. Donaldson was married April 8, 1851 to Miss Melvina Ludlow, born in Pennsylvania October 30, 1831. This union is blessed with three children, as follows, viz. Nevance R., Stella A. (now Mrs. William A. Votaw) and Frank L. Mr. Donaldson resided in Holmes County, Ohio, for three years and located in Wabash in 1862, where he conducted an extensive produce business. He was elected Treasurer of Wabash County in 1874 and again re-elected in 1876, which position he faithfully filled with honor and ability. The fall of 1880 he purchased the business in La Gro owned by R.H. Dare, where he had a fine trade in drugs. He disposed of the drug store in 1881, and still continues to reside in Wabash, where himself and family are consistent members of the Presbyterian church.
