Read More	Cascade Pioneer, December 11 ,1913, page 1, column 4DEATH OF WORTHY CITIZENRobert McNally Goes to Rest Peacefully After Brief Illness.Robert McNally, a wellknown and respected citizen of Richland township, Jones county, passed peacefully to his eternal rest last Saturday morning at the family homestead south of Cascade after a brief illness at the venerable age of 78 years.From the time of his wife's death, in November, 1907, he was a much changed man, although his general health was good considering his age. The death of his life-partner and helpmate, and their devotion to each other was ideal, and was a heavy blow from which he never recovered. His last illness was brief and death came to him like unto the influence of sleep over a tired child, and his final moments were attended by the consoling ministrations of that religion of which he was always in his manhood's strength a faithful follower and a stalwart defender.Robert McNally was the oldest son of Thomas McNally and Jane Farrell, and was born in the city of Brooklyn, N. Y., December 23, 1835. His parents removed to Baltimore in 1838, where his father was employed on public works. They resided there for four years and then in 1842 emigrated to the great west, coming to Iowa, by the way of St. Louis, and settled in Washington township, Jones county. Deceased remained on the old homestead until his marriage to Miss Maria Kenny, daughter of the late Squire Kenny, on December 2, 1867. However they continued their residence in Washington township for four years and then removed to his late home in Richland township about a mile from tbe corporation limits of Cascade.There he reared his large and interesting family of sons and daughters. He was a firm believer in education and gave each one of his children a good education in the local schools and in the higher institutions. He was a progressive man whose sympathies reached out to any movement intended for the betterment of the community. He was loyal in his friendship and a most companionable man. The crowning sorrow of his life was the death of his beloved wife in the fall of 1907.He is survived by the following children: Mrs. H.W. Sauser, O'Neill, Neb., Mrs. Theodore Maire, of Cascade; Miss Lettie McNally of Independence; Mrs. N. B. Freitgen, Oelwein; Thomas McNally at home; Mrs. Jas. A. Supple, Cascade; Mrs. J. M. Hayes, Oelwein; B. L. McNally, Wadena, Minn.; Austin McNally; Robert McNally, Sheridan, Wyoming. Arthur died in April of this year.His brother James T. and sister, Miss Annie McNally, of Temple Hill, and sister, Mrs. James Lynch, of Eagle Grove, Ia., also survive him.The funeral was held during High Mass on Monday, December 8th—the Feast day of the Immaculate Conception—Rev. J. B. Albers, officiating.The pallbearers, who were the same who acted at the funeral of Mrs. McNally, were John J. Fagan, B. F. Crawford, Pat Rogers, John Hosch, John McQuillen, Harry Moran, P. L. Devaney, and J. E. Flanigan.
