May 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hopkinton, IA, with Rev. Paul Finger presiding. Bob was born May 24, 1930, in Spartanburg, SC. May 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hopkinton, IA, with Rev. Paul Finger presiding. Bob was born May 24, 1930, in Spartanburg, SC. After graduation at Spartanburg High School he attended Berea College in Berea, KY, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1952. While he was studying there he was employed at the school dairy. He came to Iowa in 1952 where he was employed in the Mental Health Institute Dairy in Independence, IA. He met his future wife, Jacquelyn Kleineck who was a nurse there and they were married on June 5, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wyoming, IA. They started farming at Guttenberg, IA where they farmed for three years, then four years at Wyoming, IA and eight years at Monticello, IA. They bought a farm near Hopkinton in 1971 and they farmed there before moving to South Dakota in 2013 before his health began to fail. Along with farming, Bob started a carpenter business in the 1980’s and also worked seasonally for Crop Production Services. Bob was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hopkinton for more than 35 years where he had served on the church council. He also served as a 4-H Leader in Jones County. Bob is survived by his wife, two sons Robert, Jr. (Vicky Hinz) of Monticello and Paul (Dawn) Coggins of Beresford and a daughter Rev. Brenda Frelsi. Four granddaughters Alicia (Eric) Boe, Elizabeth (Tyler) Eikelberger, Sarah Frelsi and Stephanie (Nick) Rebnord and one grandson Corey (Reina) and a great-granddaughter Ruby. He is also survived by two sisters Lena Whitlaw of Jackson, SC and Helen Higgins of Cumming, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Lawrence and Mary Brown Coggins. Bob loved farming and his Angus cattle, his dogs, John Deere tractors and the fellows at Crop Production Services. He also loved fishing and woodworking. Honorary Pallbearers are Corey Coggins, Eric Boe, Nick Rebnord, Eric Sheehy, Jack Digmann, Dan Trenkamp, John Ries, Bill Kraus, and Dean Haas. There will be a visitation with the family present from 5-8pm on Friday, May 22 with a prayer service at 7pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hopkinton, IA.
