Read More	Salem News, Monday, June 3, 1940 THREE LISBON TRUCK DRIVERS DIE IN CRASH Robert Morris, Ray Trunick and Harry Cox are Victims TRUCK SHOOTS OFF ROAD, HITS TREE Vehicle Demolished, Men Almost Instantly Killed Three Lisbon men, Robert Morris 31, Ray Trunick 35, and Harry Cox 26, were killed almost instantly at 6 p.m. Saturday when Morris coal truck, in which they were riding shot off the highway, Route 30, two tens of a mile south of Lisbon and struck a large pine tree. All three were coal truck drivers. Sate Highway Patrolmen Robert Jones and James F. White said that the truck , apparently traveled downhill at a high rate of speed, struck the guard rail, traveled astride the rail for 36 feet and then hurtled a bank to strike the tree. Truck Demolished The impact demolished the truck, which was empty of coal at the time, and knocked the top out of the huge tree. The tree measured 6 feet and three inches in circumference. All three victims suffered broken necks, multiple fractures of both legs and internal injuries. Trunick and Cox also had fractured skulls. The truck hit the tree with such force, that officers pointed out, that the motor an front wheels were torn loose from the chassis. The bed of the truck and the cab in which the trio wa sriding, were wrecked. There were no witnesses to the accident, it was reported. The men had been to West Point, visiting mines in an effort to line up a supply of coal for a new contract which they were negotiating, and were returning to Lisbon when the tragic accident happened. Just what caused the accident is not known but state highway patrolmen expressed the opinion that the truck might have struck a bump or obstacle on the road which threw it out of control. Funeral Rites Announced The Cox rites will be conducted at the home in Locust Grove Tuesday morning, in charge of Brother H.J. May Youngstown of the Jehovah witnesses and burial will e in the Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call at the home this evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. Cox was born in Salem, Jan 20, 1914, a son of the late Harry Cox and Hilda Perkins Cox, but had lived in Lisbon practically all of his life. He attended the Lisbon schools and had been engaged as a truck driver for some time. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucille Estell Cox and three children Janet 7; Harry Jr., 5; and Robert 2; his mother Mrs. Frances Althar of Lisbon; two sisters Mrs. Joan Sucin, Lisbon, and Mrs. Joseph Ford of Waynesburg, a half-brother, Cline Althar of Lisbon. The Morris rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home, 223 S. Market St., in charge of the Rev. George Funk, pastore of the Columbiana Christian Church. Burial will be in the East Fairfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the home at any time but the family will be at home from 7 until 9 this evening. Robert Norman Morris was born in Elkrun township Dec 18, 1909, a son of Seth & Ida Zellers Morris. He moved to Lisbon 8 months ago to engage in the trucking business. He was a member of the Christian Church of Rogers and a member of the Eagles Lodge of Lisbon. He was united in marriage on Jan 24, 1935, with Lucille Rowley, who survives, with two children Dorothy 3, and Norman R. 16 months. Also surviving are his parents, Mrs. & Mrs. Seth Morris, Elkrun Township; three brothers, Paul of Lisbon, and Harry and Ray Morris of Elkrun Township and five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cope and Mrs. Mary Wright of Rogers, Mrs. Grace Rudibaugh of Niles, Mrs. Kathryn Evans and Mrs. Louise Hampson of Center Township. Trunick Funeral Services for Raymond Trunick will be held at the Eells Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in charge of Rev. Theodore Cord, pastor of the Christian Church and burial will be in the Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9. Trunick was born in Center Township Nov 14, 1909, a son of Harry & Laura K. Ketchum Trunick. For the past few years he had been engaged in trucking coal. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Lisbon. He was united in marriage with Helen Barnhart here on May 23, 1936, and she and a son Kenneth survive. Also surviving are two brothers Edward of Lisbon, and Russell Trunick of Youngstown, and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Prestwood of Cleveland, and Mrs. Hazel Teisler and Mrs. Jane McKnight of Youngtown.
