He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Cherry Valley, the son of Oscar Paul and Esther (Moschell) Zaebst. Zaebst Feb. 13, 2016 ASHTABULA — Robert Oscar Zaebst, age 89, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Cherry Valley, the son of Oscar Paul and Esther (Moschell) Zaebst. A graduate of New Lyme Deming High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served on the USS Lexington off the coast of Japan after World War II before being honorably discharged. On Sept. 30, 1951, he married the love of his life, Joyce Marsh, and together they shared 64 wonderful years. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Sealtest and Reiter Dairy. Robert was a member of First Christian Church for many years until its closing and currently was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, auctions, gardening, watching westerns, and being with his family. He also loved volunteering at his churches and with Faith in Action Caregivers (where he helped many people with transportation needs). He is survived by his wife, Joyce Zaebst; four children, Ken Zaebst of Ashtabula County, Linda (Brian) Anderson of Holiday, Fla., and Steven (Cindy) Zaebst and Sue Beacon, both of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Eric (fiance’ Alexa) and Brett (fiance’ Tabi) Anderson, Steven (Audrey) Zaebst, and Crystal (Todd) Fabella; and one great-grandson, Rexton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Lintella; his son-in-law, Ken Beacon Jr.; and his parents. A private family memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Ashtabula. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
