The son of Otho M. and Frances E Johnston Sanders, he was born 8 Oct 1899 in Poweshiek Co. He attended rural schools and worked on the family farm. On 2 Dec 1925 he was married to Lela Beyers in Montezuma. They farmed in the Barnes City area and moved to their present home in 1932. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served in several positions with the church. He was a member of the Barnes City School Board and president of the Barnes City Co-op Telephone Co for 20 years. He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters and their husbands, Lareta Jean and Clyde Sanders of New Sharon and Phyllis and Robert Rauch of Barnes City; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grand children and 3 sisters, Mrs Edith Hockley of Barnes City, Mrs Russell Ladely of Montezuma and Mrs Harold Elliott of Newton.
