He served as trustee of Melrose United Methodist Church, Lottsburg, board member of the Northumberland Historical Society and secretary for the Northumberland Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Slater Cowart; and his brother, Col. William S. Cowart. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter, Karen and her husband, Larry Newtzie; and son, Robert Page Cowart Jr. He had five granddaughters and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at Melrose United Methodist Church, Lottsburg, Va. on Wednesday, March 1, at 11 a.m., followed by interment in the Cowart family cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Melrose United Methodist Church, Lottsburg, Va. or the Callao Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 82, Callao, Va. 22435.
