Born on July 30, 1930, in Westernport, he was a son of the late Frank F. Jackson and Nannie (Gannon) Jackson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Johnny Jackson. Jackson, 77, Westernport, died on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport. Born on July 30, 1930, in Westernport, he was a son of the late Frank F. Jackson and Nannie (Gannon) Jackson. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Johnny Jackson. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport. He was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education as a chemistry, biology and earth science teacher at Valley High School. He was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1968-69, 1977-78, and 1984-85. He graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1949 and graduated from Potomac State College and West Virginia University. He taught at Havre De Grace for two years and Southern High School, Oakland, for four years. He was a member of the Maryland Retired Teachers Association, the Ogleby Institute of Wheeling, W.Va., the Ogleby Nature Camps of Terra Alta, W.Va., and the National Geographic Society. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a life member of Kelly-Mansfield Post 52 American Legion in Piedmont, W.Va. and the SAL (Sons of the American Legion) Post 155, Westernport. He was also a member of the Archeological Society of Maryland, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 662, Keyser, W.Va., Nature Conservancy, Nature History Society, St. Peter's Alumni, and Valley Alumni. He was a park naturalist in the summers at Deep Creek Lake State Park, Herrington Manor, and New Germany State Park. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty; two sons; two daughters; two brothers; one sister; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Friends were received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., where a Christian Wake service was held. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 18, with Fr. Jim Hannon as celebrant. Interment followed at St. Peter's Cemetery, where military rites were provided by local veterans' organizations.
