Description	:	On May 1, 1894 the parents of Robert Pelz (Americanized "Peltz") came to the USA with 2 young children – Amelia and Marie, as part of the Germans from Russia migration. Their oldest daughter, Karolina, had most likely immigrated at an earlier date. The other siblings, it seems, had all passed on in Russia. The family was settled in North Dakota when Robert was born on July 1, 1895. His father, August, was 42 and his mother, Justina, was 39 and they had endured much hardship, having lost several children, including Marie who was just 2 years old... The family was settled in North Dakota when Robert was born on July 1, 1895. His father, August, was 42 and his mother, Justina, was 39 and they had endured much hardship, having lost several children, including Marie who was just 2 years old when they immigrated. Robert grew up knowing three of his sisters, Karolina, who was married before he was born, Amelia, who was about 6 years older than he was, and his little sister, Lydia, who was about 3 years younger than he. In 1915, at the age 20, he married Clara Sandau. When Gottlieb Baesler Jr., Karolina's son, was a young child, he remembered his Uncle Robert as a young man. "He was a good gentleman." "He played with the kids", he said. Gottlieb remembered him coming over to do their chores when their father was gone because their mother, Karolina was ill. "One day he came and the next day he didn't come because he was sick. The next day he was dead!", he sadly exclaimed. Robert died on October 30, 1918, in Grant County, North Dakota, at the age of 23, a casualty of the 1918 influenza pandemic. He was buried in the Trinity Heupel Lutheran Cemetery north of New Leipzig, North Dakota. His wife Clara, never remarried.
