Description	:	Robert Pierce Patrick, 86, was born June 2, 1928, in Pittsburg to Lydia Gaye and Lloyd Patrick. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1945. His schooling was interrupted twice by service in the United States Army before his graduation from Pittsburg State University in 1955 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He joined the Battery A, 195 Field... Read More	Robert Pierce Patrick, 86, was born June 2, 1928, in Pittsburg to Lydia Gaye and Lloyd Patrick. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1945. His schooling was interrupted twice by service in the United States Army before his graduation from Pittsburg State University in 1955 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Robert was a four-year starter in football with the Pittsburg State Gorillas and was all conference in 1954. Robert served two years in World War II, most of which was in the Philippines. He joined the Battery A, 195 Field Artillery Unit in 1949 as the 11th member of the newly formed group. The unit was activated in 1950 and sent to Fort Lewis, Washington, for training. He served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Upon returning to Pittsburg in 1953, he remained in the Pittsburg National Guard Unit until being called into active service again in 1960 during the Cuban Missile Crisis as a 1st Lieutenant. After being a patient in Fitzsimmons Army Hospital for 9 months, Robert returned to Pittsburg and rose in service to Commanding Officer of the Pittsburg National Guard from 1967 through 1968. Robert completed a total of 21 years combined active service in the United States Army and the National Guard, retiring in 1968 with the permanent rank of Captain. He then transferred into the Army Reserves to finish out his military obligation. Upon leaving the military, Robert used his degree in education to coach football and track at Sarcoxie, Missouri, during which time he coached a state championship team in track. He later coached at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, where his Greyhound football teams were ranked 3rd and 5th in the nation. After leaving Fort Scott, Robert was Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Central Missouri State University (CMSU) in Warrensburg, Missouri. Robert left CMSU in 1974 and moved to Branson, Missouri, where he spent his remaining years developing land in and around Taney County. He built over 200 homes and a dozen resorts and motels. Robert Patrick was preceded in death by his parents (Lloyd and Lydia Patrick of Pittsburg); and his brother, Donald Patrick of San Luis Obispo, California. He is survived by his sister-in-law Pearl Patrick of San Luis Obispo, California, two nephews, and Mike Patrick and wife DD of San Luis Obispo, California and Gary Patrick of Cambria, California, three great nieces (Allison, Michelle and Elise) and a circle of many friends. A graveside service for Robert will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg. Arrangements are by Cremations of the Ozarks in Hollister, Missouri.
