Robert George Poppens was born on December 8, 1924, in Turner County, SD, the son William and Anna (Andreessen) Poppens. Read More	Robert "Bob" Poppens, 95, of Lennox, SD, died Monday, December 9, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, SD, just one day after his 95th birthday. Robert George Poppens was born on December 8, 1924, in Turner County, SD, the son William and Anna (Andreessen) Poppens. He grew up on a farm south of Tea, SD, attending Bedford rural school and Lennox High School. On May 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lydia Welter at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea, SD. The couple farmed east of Lennox, SD. Lydia's death, on February 4, 2015, ended a marriage union of over 65 years. Bob was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he has served on several building committees, and also as Sunday School Superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, and a very welcoming church greeter. He was active in his community and served on the Lennox Development Corporation, the Lincoln County Farm Bureau, the Cattleman's Association, and a local 4-H club . Most of all, Bob loved his family. Besides his parents and wife, Lydia, Bob was preceded in death by four siblings: Harold Poppens, Henry Poppens, LeRoy Poppens, and Irene Nelsen. Grateful for having shared his life are his three sons: Ronald (Cheryl) Poppens, Lennox; Gary (Betty) Poppens, Sioux Falls; and David (Charis) Poppens, Lennox; seven grandchildren: Eric (Ginger) Poppens, Allison Highum, Julia (Mike) Phelps, Gina (Josh) Benz, Jill (Ryan) Palcovic, Brian Poppens, and Brenda (Sam Nicolai) Poppens; 11 great-grandchildren: Hunter & Faith Poppens; Cailey, Dani, & Eli Highum; Emma & Deacon Benz; Bam & Cruz Palcovic; Trippten & Ariana Poppens; siblings: Dorothy Schnose, Davis; a nd Ruth Sherbon, Mason, OH, as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea with burial to follow in the Lennox Cemetery.
