Bob was born on a farm near Glenvil, Neb. on Sept. 28, 1921 to Rant Klaus and Margaret M. (Dudden) Goldenstein. After graduating from Glenvil High School, he went to business school at Hastings Business College and received his business degree. After receiving his degree, he applied to the Civil Service and was sent to Washington, D.C., where the work he did was business-related. He later worked in Iowa at the Postal Department. Wanting to get closer to home, Bob moved to Denver where he worked in the Postal Service at the railroad. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army. He landed on Omaha Beach three weeks after the invasion. His duties were office-related, sending military men home when emergencies arose and also making arrangements to send deceased soldiers home. While in the Army he visited Paris and took some R & R in the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a corporal. Aug. 15, 1945, Bob married Juanita “Nita” Hansen at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. To this union, two sons were born: Ron and Alan. While visiting his parents in Holyoke, he learned about a job opening at Highline Electric, where he worked as a bookkeeper and soon became the office manager. He held this position for 20 years and then became the manager. In February of 1985 he retired from Highline and wondered how he ever held a job because he was so busy helping others, including his son Alan with construction work. He and Nita traveled extensively and spent 15 years going back and forth to Arizona. Bob was a member of the Lions Club and served on the Credit Union board and the First National Bank board. Preceding him in death were his parents, Rant and Margaret Goldenstein; brother, LaVern Goldenstein; brother-in-law, Harvey McCune; nephew, Bobbie McCune; and sister-in-law, Lois Goldenstein. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Juanita of Holyoke; sons, Ron and Alan and wife Dana, all of Holyoke; three grandchildren, Clint, Melissa and Luke Goldenstein; eight great-grandchildren, Jaydin, Sydney, Kelyn, Bryton, Cooper, Adison, Emersyn and Kyle; sister, Doris McCune; and nieces, nephews and many friends. The funeral service was held Feb. 11 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke, with Reverend Gary Rahe officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holyoke Ball Field Playground Equipment, c/o First Pioneer National Bank, 150 S. Interocean Ave., P.O. Box 27, Holyoke, CO 80734. Gerk Funeral Homes was entrusted with the arrangements.
