Casketbearers will be Justin Mathis, Brandon Mathis, Tyson Mathis, Emily Guyer, Eric Townsley and Matthew Townsley. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Robert was born on June 20, 1920, in West Liberty, the son of Reuben and Zella Stephens Askam. His first marriage was to Helen Woods. She preceded him in death in 1961. He then married Edna M. Schulz on September 23, 1962, in Muscatine. Mr. Askam was a US Army veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He had worked for Hahn Brothers and the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Robert was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He loved fishing, the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Survivors include his wife, Edna Askam of Muscatine; two daughters, Katherine Guyer of Muscatine and Angela Mathis of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Emily Guyer, Justin Mathis and wife, Tiffany, Brandon Mathis and wife, Amy, and Tyson Mathis; three great-granddaughters, Bridgette, Isabelle, and Brooke; two brothers, Leon Askam of Tucson, Arizona, and Edwin Askam of West Liberty; and two sisters, Rita Herrold and Doris McCann, both of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son, Kenton Robert Askam, and two brothers, Donald and Virgil Askam. No relation
