Mrs. Mary Howard, age 35, and daughter, Mary Jane, age 11. Mrs. Howard was the wife of Mr. J. B. Howard of Saugus; the mother and child were taken from the water, dead, and clasped in each other’s arms. Miss Catharine L. Adams, aged 19 years, belonging to Boston. Miss Mary L. Adams, aged 19 years, belonging to Boston. Miss Mary Adeline Johnson, of Lynn, aged 14, daughter of Jacob J. Johnson. Miss Eliza Ann Young, age 17, of Marblehead, a young lady on a visit to Lynn. Mrs. Mahitable Alley of Lynn, aged 58. Two children of Joshua J. Garland, of Lynn, aged 6 and 0 years (Mary E & Clarinda M). Two daughters, Adelaide (5) and Irene (13), of Mr. Ephraim Brown, of Lynn. Miss Hepsibeth Maria Cheever, 17, of Lynn, daughter of Joseph Cheever. All the bodies were recovered. Before the last party went out in the boat—a large paddle boat, with a wheel house in the center—several of those belonging to the picnic had made excursion in it, and returned safely to the shore. The upsetting of the boat was owing to those in it becoming alarmed and rushing from side to side. A man and boy swam ashore, and Mr. Jonathan Tarbox saved the others that were saved by getting upon the bottom of the boat.—BOSTON POST as copied by the Defiance Democrat, August 31, 1850.
