William A. Eisenberger, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, assisted by Rev. Robert Vining, pastor of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church and Rev. Alfred W. Eppard, a member of the faculty of Faith Theological Seminary, Wilmington, Del, and a former pastor of the Piedmont church. Burial was in Philos cemetery. The pallbearers, members of Hiram Lodge, No. 103, A.F.& A. Missions, which had charge of the funeral, were Dr. C.E. Dellinger, Bonner Hardegen, Thomas J. Haywood, John H. Crist, John Miller, Victor Kalbaugh, George Cox and LaPorta Oates. Flowerbearers were employes of the Piedmont Foundry and Machine Company: Walter Ours, Carl Downey, Harry Schimminger, Robert Wilson, Jr., Robert Smith, Edgar Dick, John W. Gannon, William Kolberg and Carmel Kight. Among those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Yates, Latrobe, Pa; Mis Jean Smith, R.N. Baltimore; Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Smith, and children, Marjorie and Davie and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, Narrows Park, Md. Mr. Smith founded the Piedmont Foundry and Machine Company at Luke over forty years ago and since his retirement twenty years ago the business has been carried on by his sons, William B. Smith, of Luke and James Smith, of Keyser. It was erroneously stated in an obituary published Monday that the company was no longer in business. Cumberland News (Cumberland, Maryland)- Feb 3 1975 Excerpt from an article, Half-Century of Luke's History Is Published, by Mrs. Doris Daddysman: "The Piedmont Foundry and Machine Company is located here in 1891. The foundry sent out iron, brass and bronze mouldings, and the machine shop repaired engines and built machines of all kinds. The foundry changed ownership in 1896 when it was purchased by Robert Smith Sr. and has been operated by the Smith family ever since. The foundry today operates close to capacity and is one of the last major metal casting plants of this type in this country.
