He was born July 16, 1930 in Hardin County, to Cornelius and Cora (Bays) Sparks, Sr. His father is deceased, and his mother, Cora Draper survives in Kenton. On January 26, 1952, he married Jeraldine Stone. They remained married for 25 years, and she survives in Kenton. Other survivors include a son, David (Lorinda) Sparks of Roundhead; two daughters: Darlene (Rudy) Altamirano of Kenton and Denise Guess of Kenton; a sister, Katie Cottle of Kenton; two brothers: Johnnie (Maxine) Marshall of Lake Okeechobee, Fla. and Fred Sparks of Port Orange, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cornelius Sparks, Jr. and a sister, Thelma Neeley. Mr. Sparks owned and operated Sparks Polishing Company in Kenton for nearly 40 years. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 1994; the Eagles Elks and Moose Lodges, all in Kenton; the Masonic Wayne Lodge #569 of Waynesfield and the Aladdin Shrine of Columbus. He was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God in Alger and the Calvary Tabernacle Church in Kenton. He was a life-long resident of Hardin County and attended school at Roundhead, Alger, and McGuffey. Services were held Wednesday, August 22 at Hanson-0Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. James Short officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger, with the AMVETS Post 1994 of Kenton conducting graveside military services.
