John Filloon was listed as 46 years old and had been born in Pennsylvania. Robert's mother was 36 years old and born in Virginia. Robert's mother was 36 years old and born in Virginia. Besides Robert, there were six other children between the age of 4 and 15 listed, the two youngest being born in Iowa. On August 2, 1862 at the age of 20, Robert mustered into the 24th Infantry, Co. E under Captain Leander Clark from Tama County, Iowa. It was called the Iowa Temperance Regiment, composed of men who "did not touch, taste, handle spirituous or malt liquor, wine or cider". Highly commended for its bravery in many campaigns, the 24th Infantry was finally mustered out of service at Savannah, Georgia and disbanded in Iowa in August 1865. Robert married Eliza Welton, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Helton Welton, early pioneers of Carlton Township, Tama County, Iowa. The 1870 Census shows Hiram Welton as born in Connecticut, was 68 years old, and his wife Elizabeth was 44 and born in Kentucky. The Welton family settled in Section 34 of Carlton Township, Tama County, Iowa in 1857. They were a large family consisting of: Elizabeth, Hiram, Nathan, Eliza, Truman, Laura, Ephraim, Harriett and Lucy. Robert and Eliza Filloon had four daughters: Beatrice "Tressie" Filloon (Cal) Wintrowd; Ethel Lorena Filloon (Ransom Ed) LaValley; Estella "Stell" Filloon (1st husband Charlie) Hanlin, and (2nd husband James) Reisinger; and Hazel Filloon (Louie) Lasson. Robert Filloon died in Colorado on April 25, 1908 and was returned to Iowa for burial in the Dobson Cemetery at the Carlton Brethren Church near Garwin, Iowa. Eliza Filloon died August 13, 1936 while at the Iowa Soldier's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa after breaking her hip. She is buried beside Robert.
