He was born March 23, 1934, in Ottumwa to David and Ruby Pierce Richards. He married Sandra Bergman Jan. 2, 1958. He was a resident of Ottumwa all his life and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had been an employee of Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1985. He was born March 23, 1934, in Ottumwa to David and Ruby Pierce Richards. He married Sandra Bergman Jan. 2, 1958. He was a resident of Ottumwa all his life and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had been an employee of Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1985. He and his brother, Ed had owned and operated City Sanitation in Ottumwa, Fairfield and Centerville. He was instrumental in getting a dialysis unit in Ottumwa and was a member of United Transportation Union Local No. 1056, B P O. Elks No. 347, O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 of American Legion, Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, glider club and held a pilot’s license. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Lori Simunaci of Omaha, Neb., and Krissi Johnson of Des Moines; four granddaughters; two brothers, Ed Richards of Ottumwa and Ken Richards of Parker, Colo.; and a sister, Lois Higgins of Fresno, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dick Richards. The service will be at ll a m. Wednesday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
