Description	:	PEMAQUID BEACH -- Robert Wallace Furman, 79, passed away Dec. 11 at his home on Pemaquid Trail, New Harbor, Maine after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Pemaquid on Dec. 28, 1924, the son of Roswell Yates Furman and Doris Partridge Furman. As a youth, Bob was a competitive diver and equestrian. He loved music and played the drums professionally. He could also play the guitar and trumpet. After attending schools in Newton, Mass., Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was born in Pemaquid on Dec. 28, 1924, the son of Roswell Yates Furman and Doris Partridge Furman. As a youth, Bob was a competitive diver and equestrian. He loved music and played the drums professionally. He could also play the guitar and trumpet. After attending schools in Newton, Mass., Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II. He also attended Holy Cross and graduated from MIT in 1950. Bob loved the sea and traveled all over the world, first in the Merchant Marine and later as an employee of Grace Line in New York City and as vice-president of Cargocaire Engineering Corporation in Amesbury, Mass. He had considerable experience in high seas and inland water transportation. He was a Naval Architect, a licensed Professional Engineer in New Hampshire and Maine, and licensed Real Estate Broker. In 1973 he founded Lincoln Engineering Company, Damariscotta, ME. In recent years, he worked part time for Drum & Drum Real Estate. Bob served many years as choir director for the New Harbor United Methodist Church. He was also actively involved with the Bristol Area Library, New Harbor Cemetery Association, and the Pemaquid Trail Association. During his later years, Bob enjoyed playing golf and exploring his roots through genealogy. As a lifelong fan, he thoroughly enjoyed this years Red Sox World Series victory. Bob was an eternal optimist, an accomplished story teller, and brought joy to all that knew him. He is survived by his wife of more than 48 years, Louise Johnson Furman of Pemaquid; a daughter, Nancy Spencer and her son Nathanael Spencer of Bristol; a son, Robert Furman, his wife Debra, and their sons, Andrew and Matthew Furman of Waldoboro; a sister, Elizabeth F. Prescott of Pemaquid; two nephews, Robert Davidson and his wife, Cheryl of Pemaquid and Peter Davidson of Portland; a niece, Bonnie Argeropoulos and her husband, George, and their daughters, Sarah and Anna of Bow, N.H.; three half brothers, Ross, Bruce and Dean Furman; and a half sister, Joyce Lachmund Birth: Dec 28 1924 Death: Dec 11 2004 Age: 79 Branch: US NAVY War: WORLD WAR II
