Description	:	Robert W. Helgeson, 78 Robert W. Helgeson was born to George and Emma Helgeson August 13, 1918 in rural Baltic. He attended grade school in Renner and graduated from Lyons High School in 1935. After graduation, he farmed for his aunt, Gena Larson, near Harrisburg. Robert married Eleanor Severson March 29, 1941, in Canton. They farmed near Harrisburg until 1946 when they moved to Renner. Robert farmed near Renner until retiring in 1980. He attended grade school in Renner and graduated from Lyons High School in 1935. After graduation, he farmed for his aunt, Gena Larson, near Harrisburg. Robert married Eleanor Severson March 29, 1941, in Canton. They farmed near Harrisburg until 1946 when they moved to Renner. Robert farmed near Renner until retiring in 1980. Eleanor died July 7, 1969. Robert married Pearl Nelson on April 3, 1975, at Crooks, where the couple lived. Robert enjoyed sports, especially bowling, and he earned many awards in the Senior Games. He served on the Renner schoolboard for 14 years, was Treas. of Renner Lutheran Church and financial secretary and Sunday School teacher at West Nidaros Lutheran Church. He was secretary of Crooks Elevator, Farm Bureau director and past president of the Sons of Norway. Robert was baptized and confirmed at West Nidaros Lutheran Church where he was a member. He shared his life with his wife, Pearl; two sons: Glenn and his wife, Margaret, of Crooks, and Lyle of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Linda, and her husband, Claire Hines, of Dell Rapids; a son-in-law, Richard Dybvig of Baltic; seven grandchildren; a stepson, Don Nelson, and his wife, Marlene, of Crooks; a stepdaughter, Gale, and her husband, Arlen Ingalls, of Silvertome, Colorado; six step grandchildren: to step great grandchildren; three brothers: Earl of Canton, Merle of Thousand Palms, California, and Neil of Salisbury, Maryland; and three sisters: Betty Gran of Valley Springs, Irene Reiter and Ruth Ferrin, both of Sioux Falls. Robert was preceded in death his parents; a daughter, Cheryl Dybvig, and a granddaughter, Lynn Rachel. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 3, 1996 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church in Crooks with the Rev. Olaf Roynesdal officiating. Interment was at West Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dick Lone, Arnie Severson, Craig Nelson, Dave Rogness, Harold Borgen and Dick Gran. Minnehaha Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
