Description	:	Robert W. Short, the 85 year old, retired attorney and former President of Bedford Federal Savings Bank passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 4, 2008. He was born on Feb. 3, 1923, in Bedford to Carl M. and Jessie (Williams) Short and raised on the family farm in Springville. He graduated from Springville high School in 1940 and was President of his class. He attended Indiana University where his education was interrupted by World War II. Short, the 85 year old, retired attorney and former President of Bedford Federal Savings Bank passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 4, 2008. He was born on Feb. 3, 1923, in Bedford to Carl M. and Jessie (Williams) Short and raised on the family farm in Springville. He graduated from Springville high School in 1940 and was President of his class. He attended Indiana University where his education was interrupted by World War II. He served as a Navigator in The Eighth Air Force and retired as a 1st Lieutenant. He returned to continue his education and graduated from Indiana University Law School in 1951. He then practiced law in Bedford and served as City Attorney in the administration of Ivan Brinegar and Lee Quackenbush. He was an active member of the Bedford chamber of commerce, and long serving Board Member of the Bedford boys Club. He was instrumental in the growth of the Bedford Federal Savings and Loan and oversaw the building of its new and current bank building, where he served as President until his retirement in 1988. He continued to practice law until he suffered from failing eyesight. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Suzanne Lanz Short; one son, Carl of Sarasota, FL; daughters, Julia of Atlanta, GA and Laura of West Palm Beach, FL; grandson, Bradley Robert of Poughquag, NY; three great grandchildren and one sister, Martha Jane Cottingham of Miami Lakes, FL.
