"Bob" McKim, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant. Born Sept. 22, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Milo William and Eula Mae Short McKim. On March 15, 1947, he married Cleo L. Humphrey in Cedar Rapids. Mr. McKim worked for Davenport Machine and Foundry. He later worked for the former Hayworth Motors and Taylor Motors, both in Mount Pleasant. In 1948, he went into partnership with Jack Hodson and they purchased the dealership and salvage yard of Roy Fleenor and formed the Hodson-McKim Motor Co., which he co-owned for almost 25 years. He retired in 1984. He was raised on the family farm east of Mount Union. He was a 1942 graduate of Mount Union High School and attended American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946. He served in clerk detail in Mississippi, Port Heume, Calif., and Maui, Hawaii, and obtained the rank of yeoman 2nd class. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee, as an usher and as a volunteer that prepared the church's newsletter for mailing. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Chamber Alliance and was a charter member of Mount Pleasant Jaycees. He was a 59-year member of American Legion Robert Tribby Post No. 58 of Mount Pleasant and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of New London. He maintained a large model railroad collection for many years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ted William McKim of Clermont, Fla., and Dennis Robert McKim of Blue Ridge, Va.; one daughter, Sue Ann Lowe of Mount Ida, Ark.; one sister, Jean Riepe of Marengo; one aunt and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, one his twin. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. McKim will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Burial Detail Honors Squad of the Henry County Veterans organizations will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
