BURNS will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home. Interment of her cremated remains will be in Evergreen Cemetery. She was a graduate of Ottummwa High School and Parsons College. Miss BURNS taught in Iowa high schools, including Donnellson and Knoxville. During World War II she taught radio transmission at the Souix Falls, S.D., armed services air base. She later worked at several radio stations and at Collins Radio, now Rockwell Collins, in Cedar Rapids. At retirement she moved to Seattle and became a licensed real estate agent. She was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa. Survivors include a number of cousins. ------------- The following was provided by Don Harper on November 1 & 2, 2014: She was the adopted daughter of Robert and Esther. She lived successively in Ottumwa, IA, Cedar Rapids, IA, Lynnewood, WA (where I first caught up with her) and Edmonds, WA. Her education was Ottumwa High School, graduating in 1931, and Parsons College, Fairfield, IA. Her occupations were as follows: Teacher, Donnellson High School, 1936-1942 >Latin and Mathematics Teacher, Knoxville High School, 1941(?)- Teacher, Mason City High School Representative for Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Rockwell International Extensive travels on behalf of companies Retired 1978 Real estate business in Lynnwood and Edmonds - residential and commercial/industrial She had cancer removed from her lung in 1982. Her last hospital treatment was in 1989. She underwent chemotherapy and eventually the cancer killed her. She did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society where she handled mailings, answered phones, counseling other patients, conducting slide shows Her hobbies were music and horse racing.
