She was born on Feb. 26, 1918, to Blanch and George McCready of Joliet. She was the firstborn of four daughters, Roberta, Lillian, Doris and Edna Mae. Roberta graduated from Joliet High School in 1936. She married Joe Stene, July 7, 1938, and lived on the ranch north of Joliet until Joe passed away in 1993. Stene passed away at Horizon Hospice Home of natural causes. She was born on Feb. 26, 1918, to Blanch and George McCready of Joliet. She was the firstborn of four daughters, Roberta, Lillian, Doris and Edna Mae. Roberta graduated from Joliet High School in 1936. She married Joe Stene, July 7, 1938, and lived on the ranch north of Joliet until Joe passed away in 1993. Roberta moved back to Joliet, where she lived for 15 years. In 1940, she was blessed with a daughter, Karen Jo (Stene) Henneberry; and a son, Robert Stene, in 1944. Roberta was very satisfied raising two children, but to her surprise, in 1951, she gave birth to a second son Joseph "Jody" Stene. Roberta was a loving mother and grandmother, thoroughly enjoying her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of the most memorable moments were taking walks with her family and grandchildren through the green hay fields, tall pine trees and deep coulees while greatly enjoying the huge family gatherings and home cooking at the ranch. Roberta enjoyed bowling with her sister Lillian and friends, winning numerous trophies and titles. After moving back to Joliet, she enjoyed her local neighbors and girlfriends stopping by for a coffee party and discuss all the happenings going on in the town and elsewhere. Roberta is gone from our sight but not from our hearts. She is survived by her son, Robert and Theresa Stene of Joliet; her son, Jody and Linda Stene of Joliet; and her grandchildren, Susan Kuchera of Billings, Ben and Kelly Henneberry of Cedarburg, Wis., Chris Stene of Billings, Tracy and Dennis Holly of Laurel, Jason Stene of Joliet, and Brian and Tonya Stene of Ramona, Calif. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Stene; a daughter, Karen Jo Henneberry; sisters, Lillian Amundsen, Edna Mae Young; and her parents, George and Blanch McCready. Memorial services will be held at Joliet Wesleyan Church at Carbon and Second Street in Joliet, Monday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. Burial service will be at the Joliet Cemetery and a reception will follow at the Wesleyan Church after the services. All memorials may be sent to the Horizon Hospice House, 1019 Neptune Blvd., Billings, MT 59105. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of cremation.
