She was preceded in death by her Parents, a brother Raymond, and 2 sisters, Marie Hoffmann and Elnora Kernen. Roberta Grace Helgens was born June 16, 1922 near Scotch Grove, Iowa. She was the daughter of Reinhard and Gesina Leesekamp, Helgens. She received her early education in the rural schools of Jones and Delaware Counties. She graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1940. She continued her education at the Lutheran School of Nursing in Moline, Illinois where she graduated on October 27, 1944. Roberta was a nurse in the Obstetrics Department at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello for 40 years. She retired in January of 1985. Roberta was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. She was Baptized at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church on July 9, 1922 and Confirmed her faith on March 21, 1937 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church where she has been a member since. Roberta enjoyed church activities, visiting friends, growing flowers and gardening, crocheting, reading, TV and traveling. She especially enjoyed time spent with her many nieces and nephews and their families and he wonderful neighbors over the years.
