Description	:	A high speed crash yesterday noon resulted in the death of two Sterling sisters.Sandra Lee Rigel, 17, and Robin Lynn Rigel, 25, of 22536 County Road 46, died instantly yesterday when their car went out of control and struck a utility pole on County Road 43, the old Padroni Road. Read More	A high speed crash yesterday noon resulted in the death of two Sterling sisters.Sandra Lee Rigel, 17, and Robin Lynn Rigel, 25, of 22536 County Road 46, died instantly yesterday when their car went out of control and struck a utility pole on County Road 43, the old Padroni Road. The accident occurred seven miles northeast of Sterling. According to the Colorado State Patrol the car, driven by the older Rigel sister, was traveling approximately 65 miles per hour, south bound on County Road 43, apparently went out of control off the right side of the road, traveled about 525 feet on the soft shoulder. The vehicle then over-compensated and swerved left across the road. The car skidded approximately 56 feet across the road and into the left hand lane, then rolled down the left embankment and struck a power pole with the top and windshield, sheering the pole and breaking power lines. The vehicle traveled another 20 feet before stopping. Broken power lines sparked a roadside fire, which was extinguish ed by the Sterling Fire Department, but the vehicle itself didn't catch fire. Patrol officers are still investigating the possible cause of the accident. The cause of death was listed by Logan Coroner Russ Chaney as massive head injuries. Toxicoidgy tests have not been comp1eted but Chaney said there is no indication alcohol or drug use by either girl. Patrol officers indicated the girls had just left home prior to the accident.Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Robin Rigel was born Oct. 19, 1960 in Sterling, and Sandra Rigel was born Aug. 1, 1968 in Sterling, the daughters of Robert and Eleanor Schadegg Rigel. Robin attended Sterling schools, graduating from Sterling High School in 1980 and was employed at the Supreme Motel. She was engaged to Bud Henderson. The younger sister completed her sophomore year at Sterling High School this spring. She participated in girls volleyball and basketball. Both were members of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. They are survived by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rigel of 22536 County Road 46, Sterling; six brothers, Scott Rigel of Del Norte, Gary Rigel, Ronald Rigel, Chris Rigel, Bobbie Rigel and Bruce Rigel, all of Sterling; grandmother, Christina Rigel of Sterling; six uncles, 14 aunts, three nieces and three nephews. Hettinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
