Private family services will be held at St. Thomas Orthodox Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Thomas Begley officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery, Graceland Park Cemetery. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He graduated from North High School. Following high school, he worked in Sioux City for a short time before moving to San Diego, Calif. He also lived in Palm Springs, Calif., before moving to Kansas City. He worked in retail sales. He enjoyed gardening, antiques and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his parents, Floyd and Florence Counter of Sioux City; three brothers, Ronald Counter, Keith Counter and Kevin Counter, all of Sioux City; three sisters and their husbands, Kathy and Wally Reid of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Renee and Gary Swensen of Sioux City and Rhonda and Kevin Kelley of Overland Park, Kan.; and several nephews and a niece.
