Rodney was born on Feb. 17, 1924, in Sioux City, to Valmore and Myrtle (Dluzak) Allard of Jefferson. Rodney graduated from Jefferson High School in the class of 1941. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served overseas in the Philippines. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to farm with his brothers, Myron and Alfred. After constructing his family home in Jefferson, he became a carpenter, building and remodeling houses in the Siouxland area. Rodney loved gardening and he especially enjoyed working in his orchard filled with a variety of apples, peaches and pears. Although known as a quiet man of few words, his humble actions and incredible work ethic were a reflection of the love and appreciation he had for his family and friends. Rodney is survived by his wife, Pauline (Crevier) Allard of 66 years; brother, Myron; eight children, Tom (Kathleen) Allard of Traverse City, Mich., Jane Anne (Eric Grimm) Allard of Jefferson, David (Andrea) Allard of Rapid City, S.D., Gene (Kimberly) Allard of Island Lake, Ill., Paul Allard of Encinitas, Calif., Suzanne (Mike) LaMaack of Windom, Minn., Joseph (Akiko) Allard of Sterling, Va., and Amy (Marty) Carmody of Grosse Pointe, Mich. He is also survived by his 16 loving grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Theresa Allard; brother, Alfred Allard; and granddaughter, Abby LaMaack. [Source: Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in Sioux City, Iowa]
