Memorials may be directed to the family for pancreatic cancer research. Roger Albert Schulz was born on August 8, 1950 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Erwin Oswald & Laura Udyell (Young) Schulz. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in the Class of 1968. Roger moved to Oelwein where he married Bonnie Lou Phillips on January 16, 1971 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A daughter, Vicki, was born to the couple. They later divorced. Roger married Marsha Rae (Fitz) Wilkinson on September 1, 2000 at Fripp Island, South Carolina. Roger began work at Shield-Bantam in Waverly. He then started his contractor/construction business that he operated for 44 years, Roger Schulz Construction. He built 72 new homes and renovated many homes in the local area. Roger loved creating unique custom designs in his construction projects. He was licensed as a plumber, heating and cooling contractor and as a lead safe renovator. Roger was an Alliant Energy dealer for insulation and worked for State Farm Insurance as a contractor to repair water, fire and storm damage. Roger was also a landlord, providing rental homes to area residents. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Building Contractors Association. Roger had formerly been a Jaycee and active in area softball leagues. He enjoyed traveling and his cats. Roger’s passions were creating, cooking and sharing his gourmet meals and spending time with his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his Wife: Marsha Schulz of Oelwein; Daughter: Vicki (John) Ault of Oelwein; Grandson: Braxton Reimer of Oelwein; 2 Brothers: David (Sandy) Schulz of Durant & Dick (Randi) Schulz of Ankeny; 2 Sisters: Sherry (Michael) Buttjer of Plainfield & Becky Schulz of Rochester, Minnesota; Mother: Laura Schulz of West Union and many Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
