He died at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Roger was handicapped since birth. He grew up in Decatur County, Iowa with his family. He enjoyed batting at balls, going for car rides, and time with his family. When Roger was in his 30’s, he moved to the Glenwood Resource Center in Glenwood, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Janice Smith and LaDonna Weason and husband, Jack; and brother-in-law, John Walsh. Survivors include his siblings, Linda Walsh of Leon, Iowa, Lester Smith of Glenwood, Dale and Fuchsia Smith of Bethany, Missouri, and Mary Fordyce and husband, Neil, of Ridgeway, Missouri; nieces, nephews and other relatives; and all of his loving caregivers. Memorial services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating.
