Roger was born August 7th, 1915 in Sutton, Nebraska to Claude and Emma Hurst Mitchell. Roger married Edna L. Riggenbach in Taos, New Mexico on November 22, 1943. Read More	Roger Earl Mitchell 1915- 2016 Roger Earl Mitchell, 100, passed away Friday, May 27th, 2016 at the Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake in Monte Vista Colorado. Roger was born August 7th, 1915 in Sutton, Nebraska to Claude and Emma Hurst Mitchell. Roger married Edna L. Riggenbach in Taos, New Mexico on November 22, 1943. Roger served in the United States Army during World War II and was involved in the Normandy invasion and the German Campaign. Following his service in the military Roger returned to the San Luis Valley and farmed alongside his brother Marvin in the Sargent and Stanley areas. He always had a deep love for farming and had the opportunity to drive a tractor on his 100th birthday. He was a longtime member of the Monte Vista United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, Farm Bureau, Monte Vista Potato Growers, former president of the Billings Ditch Board and a member of the Elk's. Roger Earl farmed with his son Roger Bill for a few years until he took over the operation. After Roger Bill took over the operation, Roger Sr., helped farming potatoes and barley, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, going where ever he was asked to support them in their sports and activities. Roger was running a combine in the barley fields until his late eighties. He was always available to do tractor work and would work from sun up to sun down. He loved to have his grandchildren with him in the fields. As far as the work went he never retired until his health deteriorated a major slowdown and he entered the Vet Center at age 96. He loved the staff there until his death at almost 101. He is survived by his son, Roger Bill (Linda) Mitchell of Monte Vista, his daughter, Diane (Bill) Keeling of Chandler, Arizona, his grandchildren, Darrin (Cary) Mitchell, Jason (Julie) Mitchell, Lori (Dave) Konkel, Chere (Troy) Plane, Kenny Keeling, Karen Metzger, and Kim (Ryan Hamm) Keelinghamm, his great grandchildren, Abby and Zachary Konkel, Hannah and Sadie Mitchell, Paige, Brooke, and Jaide Mitchell, Mitchell and Quinn Plane, Shane, Cheyenne, Tatiana (Ben) Adelstein, and Lansing Keelinghamm, Alyssa (Nick) O'Brien, Gavin Keeling, Whittney Metzger, two great great grandchildren, Brad O'Brien and Justine O'Brien and his sister-in-law Mary Ann Mitchell as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna, his brothers Harold and Marvin Mitchell, his sister Charlotte Warren and great grandson Brad Metzger. Cremation was selected and a Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 22, 2016 at the Colorado State Veterans Cemetery at Homelake. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
