Description	:	Roger G. Kieffer, 79, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 11, 2015 at home surrounded by his family after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. Roger Gary Kieffer was born October 13, 1935 in Hannah, ND the son of Leander “Lee” and Clara Ann (Metzger) Kieffer. Roger attended grade school in Hannah until moving to Grand Forks in 1945. Kieffer, 79, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 11, 2015 at home surrounded by his family after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. Roger Gary Kieffer was born October 13, 1935 in Hannah, ND the son of Leander “Lee” and Clara Ann (Metzger) Kieffer. Roger attended grade school in Hannah until moving to Grand Forks in 1945. He finished elementary school at St Michael’s Catholic School and graduated high school from St. James Academy in 1953. Following graduation, Roger enlisted in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, Roger married the love of his life and grade school sweetheart, Joan Ditton on July 14, 1956 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Together, they raised six children. Roger graduated from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks with a degree in Business. Roger then joined his father-in-law at Dakota Sales Company and eventually owned the business. Roger was a very active member with Holy Family Catholic Church and the community of Grand Forks. He served on numerous boards with Holy Family Catholic Church and School. He was a member and past president of Sertoma Club and a member and Past President of Sioux Boosters. He along with Joan were awarded the 2011 Fighting Sioux Honorary Letter Winners. Roger was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Provencher Assembly 1578. He was involved with St Anne's Guest Home as well as the Seniors Center and St. Michael’s Bridge Builders. Roger retired from Dakota Sales Company in 2003. He and Joan spent many memorable winter vacations in Maui, Hawaii. Their summers were spent with family at their lake home in Bemidji, MN. Many sunset pontoon rides were taken and many card games of "Oh Hell" we're played. Roger and Joan logged many hours walking the beaches of Maui, the roads to Lahaina, the trails of Bemidji State Park and the bike paths of Grand Forks. Roger enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his sons, grandsons and friends. He played many rounds of golf in Grand Forks, Maui and Bemidji. Roger enjoyed hard fought games of racquet ball; Thursday and Sunday night bowling leagues, fun filled card games with family and friends, as well as golfing with the Lincoln Park Seniors league. Roger is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Joan; sons, Randy (Kimberly), Rick (Kelly), Mark (Jodi), all of Grand Forks, ND; daughters, Elizabeth “Beth”(Jeff) Jauch, Cedar Rapids, IA, Sheri (Karl) Peterson, Brooklyn Park, MN, Kristi (Kevin) Robson, Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Sharon (Gary) Swigart, Prescott, AZ, Judi Pedas, Knoxville, TN, Joan (Bob) Lockharrt, Napa, CA; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 infant sons; his parents and brother-in-law, Ted Pedas. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to support Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 18th Avenue South, Grand Forks, ND 58201 and St. Anne’s Guest Home, 524 North 17th Street, Grand Forks, ND 58203. Mass of Christian Burial: 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home-Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday. Honor Guard: Members of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Provencher Assembly 1578 Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
