Roger was born on May 18, 1947, in Grinnell, the son of Raymond and Betty Wolfe Puls, Sr. He was raised in the Malcom area and was a 1965 graduate of BGM High School. After high school, he served in the United States Army. On September 16, 1989, he married Julie Ann Roberts, in Victor. They were the parents of three children, Tyler, Travis, and Nicole. The couple divorced in 2000 but remained friends, blossoming that friendship in recent years. Roger was employed at Donaldson Company for 23 years, Midwest Manufacturing for one year, and Victor Manufacturing for 15 years where he retired on May 28, 2010. Roger kept busy after retirement working part-time at Theisen’s for a few years. Throughout his life he was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed helping area farmers with crops and livestock. He also helped clean up the countryside, hauling in scrap metals and searching for treasures to sell. Roger was always looking for good fun. He was a member of the Grinnell Bowling League for many years and appreciated the comradery. He enjoyed fishing, especially trips down south with friends, playing cards with family and friends, and the occasional trip to Meskwaki Casino or Prairie Meadows. Seeing his children and grandchildren always brightened his day. He was an avid sports fan, especially football. He also enjoyed the atmosphere and bartering with people at the What Cheer Flea Market where he had a booth. He is survived by his three children, Tyler Puls (Liz Puls) of Des Moines, Travis Puls of Malcom, and Nicole (Nick) Wallace of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Walter and Owen Puls; four brothers, Ron (Jane) Puls of Malcom, Rick (Sheryl) Puls of Malcom, Rod (Robin McCammant) Puls of Grinnell, and Russell Puls of Grinnell; three sisters, Deb (Kip) VanAuken of Grinnell, Rhonda (Bill Lane) Puls of Grinnell, and DeAnna Hoien of Grinnell; and one sister-in-law, Pam Puls of Malcom.
