Description	:	KEARNEY — Roger Lee Wells, 84, of Axtell died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, in Kearney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell with the Rev. Gale Dorn officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of the arrangements. He was an amazing husband, son, brother, and grandfather and was a loyal friend to many. He leaves behind many family members and friends whom he loved passionately and will miss him dearly. He leaves behind many family members and friends whom he loved passionately and will miss him dearly. He was born in Minden on Jan. 23, 1931, to Lee and Laura (Gustafson) Wells. He married the love of his life, Carol Jean Wendell, in 1951. The following year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Gordon, Ga., where he studied cryptography. He was then deployed to Okinawa where he worked as a cryptographer during the Korean War. After his service to his country, he returned to farming in Axtell. Roger was incredibly active in the community, including serving on the school board, church council, teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir and singing in the “Messiah” for 50 years. In his free time, he enjoyed all sports, especially watching his kids and grandkids compete. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Laura Wells; his sons, Jeffrey Lee Wells and Kevin Casey Wells; his in-laws, Ernest and Adina Wendell; his sister-in-law, Carrol Wells; and his son-in-law, Conrad Hoyle Sommers. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Carol Jean; his children, Angela Sommers, Camille McDonald and her husband, Joe, Kurt Wells and his wife, Christine, and Lyle Wells and his wife, Laurie; his grandchildren, Chad Wells and his wife, Erica, Jaime Lyons and her husband, Greg, Jessica Sommers, Kelsey Wells and her friend, David Sisneros, Paige Wells, Connor Wells, Mitchell Wells and Kit Wells; his great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Addison Wells, Kellen Anderson and Grace and Noah Lyons; his brother, Dudley Wells; and sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Rod Behrhorst. He held such a special place in all his family’s heart and will be missed dearly by everybody.
