Funeral service will be 1:30 pm Monday October 12, at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with burial at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Roger Torvald Christiansen, son of Niels and Jensine (Wolhoy) Christiansen, was born May 2, 1928 in Viborg, SD. He graduated from Viborg High School. After high school Roger and his best buddy and classmate, Ralph Lauritzen, went to California. He returned home and enlisted into the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict in January 1951 until his honorable discharge in October 1954. He mainly did maintenance on airplanes in South Korea. He was united in marriage with Belinda Erstad on December 12, 1957 in Sioux Falls, SD. Roger worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 28.5 years. Roger was a member of First Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Following his retirement, he drove for Project Car for 25 years. He enjoyed being a usher and preparing coffee for the Bazaar for many years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and American Legion Chorus. He enjoyed singing and the genuine camaraderie for 56 years. Roger enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, especially his trips with Belinda to Norway, Denmark, Mexico and Hawaii. Roger was proud of his Danish ancestry. His mom and dad both emigrated to America at a young age, and they shared the Danish culture and work ethic with their children. He loved his mom’s cooking and pastries. Grateful for having shared his life are his nieces, Karen ‘Vik’ (Bob) Reemts, Rock Rapids, IA, Kathy ‘Fenstermaker’ Osborne, Chesterton, IN, Jo Ann ‘Fenstermaker’ (Kevin) Callahan, Brandon, SD; nephews, Neil (Sacia) Vik, Kent, WA, Keith (Angie) Vik, Ashland, WI, John (Shirley) Erstad, Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Barbara Brown, Tempe, AZ; cousins, Ruth Christensen, Beresford, SD, Faith Christiansen, Sioux Falls, SD and Frances Christensen, Viborg, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Belinda in 2002; his parents; brothers, Leroy and James Christiansen; a sister and husband, Marie and Elmer Vik; sister-in-law and husband, Elaine (Lee) Fenstermaker; brother-in-law, Lyle Erstad; a niece, Carol Duber; and a special friend, LuVerne Hall.
