There will be a Rosary and Vigil Service for Roger on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at St. Charles Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation for Roger will be on Sunday from 12-5 p.m. at Krebsbach/Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel and at St. Charles Catholic Church from 6-9 p.m. Roger was born February 16, 1945, to Beatrice (Kuntz) and Valentine Walter in Dickinson, North Dakota. He was the youngest of four brothers and grew up working hard on his family's farm. Roger attended school in South Heart and graduated in 1963. He then attended college at the National School of Business in Rapid City, SD, where he earned a degree in Business Management. In his younger years, Roger played with old-time music bands throughout the area when he met the love of his life, Teresa (Terry) Ewoniuk. In 1966, they were married at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church near Belfield, ND; this past June, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Their first home was in Rapid City, where Roger was in management training for K-Mart. They moved to Clinton, IA, where their daughter, Laura, was born. The next transfer was to Aberdeen, SD, where their son, Patrick, was born. After moving to LaCrosse and Green Bay, WI, Roger took a permanent position as Operations Manager for K-Mart in Rapid City. During that move, Bobby was born in Dickinson. Employment with Barber Transportation (1974-1982) brought the family to Bowman, where they fell in love with the community and remained for life. In 1986, Roger began employment with Northwest Tire, eventually retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. St. Charles Catholic Church was near and dear to his heart. Roger felt blessed to be a Eucharistic Minister, especially bringing Jesus to those that were homebound. In addition, Roger gave back to the community, spending countless hours volunteering in multiple organizations. Being a strong voice who spoke with his heart, he was a natural for leadership roles. Roger was the Charter President of the Bowman Lions Club, and continued serving this organization until his last days. He was a Pack Master for the Boy Scouts of America, Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, and President of the Bowman Hospital Board. Roger had many skills, interests, and hobbies that were guided by companionship, charity, and competition. With Roger missing from the table, card games just won't be the same. His work-ethic was second to none. Being a jack-of-all trades, he enjoyed making birdhouses and getting involved in any construction project that incorporated labor. His children always felt Labor Day was a day to work, not rest from work. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and relaxing at Hart Ranch when time allowed. He busied himself with taking care of the Lion's Park, driving cars for the local dealership, and working for the Bowman County Weed Board. Roger was a skillful self-taught piano player, who learned by ear, and those that were privileged to listen couldn't help but dance or sing along. Although of German decent, Roger was passionate and happy to be involved with his wife's Ukrainian heritage. In 2006, Roger and Teresa were chosen to be Malanka, representing North Dakota Ukrainians at the Canadian National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin, Manitoba. Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, brother, and friend. Roger is survived by his wife Terry, children Laura (Gary), Patrick (Marla), and Bobby (Andrea); grandchildren Ashlyn, Ian, Jessica, Jada, Darien, Jaelyn, Alyssa, Joshua and Halle; and brothers Clifford (Eleanor) and Donald. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Simon, sister-in-laws Anna, Catherine, and Mabel, in-laws Matt and Pearl Ewoniuk; and brother-in-law Fred Ewoniuk.
