Description	:	Roland B. Sherman, a Modoc native and forester, died at his home in Alturas Wednesday evening, December 28. He was 79 years of age. The deceased was a retired Modoc forester who was born to Sam and Carolyn Chace of Adin on May 18, 1904. He graduated from Adin schools and married Dora Auble June 14, 1925 in Adin. Sherman, a Modoc native and forester, died at his home in Alturas Wednesday evening, December 28. He was 79 years of age. The deceased was a retired Modoc forester who was born to Sam and Carolyn Chace of Adin on May 18, 1904. He graduated from Adin schools and married Dora Auble June 14, 1925 in Adin. He began work for the Modoc Forest Service in Adin in 1932 and then as ranger at the Hackamore station. In 1942 he moved to Alturas where for the next 21 years he served as dispatcher at headquarters. He retired in September of 1963. In Alturas, Sherman was well known for his taxidermy work and was a longtime member of the Alturas Rifle and Pistol Club. Hunting, fishing, and the outdoors were his well known hobbies. He was critically injured in an auto mishap in the fall of 1981, but recovered from those injuries to maintain an active interest in outdoor activities until his death. Services were conducted from Kerr Chapel Monday at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Lester Brittell of the Church of Christ officiated and interment was in the Alturas Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, daughter, son, brother, sister, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Andy Anderson, Bob Sloss, Jim Porter, Jack Gaskey, Dick Caldwell, and Joe Dees. Modoc County Record, January 5, 1984.
