Description	:	Roland Eugene Cannon, son of Gail Arthur Cannon and Clara Agnes (James) Cannon was born March 15, 1928 in Weldon, Iowa and passed from this life January 3, 2011 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 82 years of age. Roland attended school near Weldon, Iowa. He served his country in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in occupied Japan. He later served in the Army Air Corps reserves. Roland attended school near Weldon, Iowa. He served his country in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in occupied Japan. He later served in the Army Air Corps reserves. He was united in marriage to Virginia Maurine Clark in 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska; he was later married to Georgianell Daniels Caspers on October 22, 1976. Roland had lived in Des Moines since 1949. He was employed for many years by Mid-States Distributing in Des Moines and Des Moines Television. Roland was able to travel extensively to other countries and throughout the United States. He and Georgianell wintered in Pharr, Texas until his health would not allow them to continue. His interests included fishing, woodcarving, traveling, jewelry making, remote control airplanes and helping with numerous projects for friends and family. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League in Des Moines and the Woodcarvers of America. He was a loyal friend. Roland was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold, Carl, Meryln, Winston; sisters, Roberta Sponsler and infant sister, Della; daughter, Linda Sue; and step-son, Michael Shepherd . He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Georgianell Cannon of Des Moines; daughter, Joyce M. (Sue) Taylor of Des Moines; son-in-law, Robert Taylor of St. Marys; step children, Dan (Sharon) Shepherd of Albia, Ron (Rosezetta) Shepherd of Des Moines, Sue (Phil) See of Albia, Phil (Cathy) Shepherd of Des Moines, Kay (Mark) Joines of Des Moines, Louis (Jan) Caspers of Amana; daughter-in-law, Sharold Shepherd of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Robert (Christi) Taylor, Jr. of West Des Moines, Jacki (Ron) Hyde of Des Moines, Jessi Taylor of Des Moines, Violette Oxenford of Des Moines, step grandchildren, Benjamin Caspers, Jonathan Caspers, Michael Shepherd, Jr., Keith Shepherd, Adam Shepherd, Shannon See, Shawn See, Jennifer See, Kevin See, Danny Shepherd, Denny Shepherd, Matthew Oxenford, Jason Shepherd, Joe Shepherd, Heather Shepherd; sixteen step great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
