Description	:	Roland G. Swen, age 95 of Grand Forks, formerly of Gilby, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks with family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Amundson Funeral Home in Grand forks. Burial will be at the Gilby Cemetery in Gilby this spring. He was reared and educated... Read More	Roland G. Swen, age 95 of Grand Forks, formerly of Gilby, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks with family by his side. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Roland G. (Bub) Swen, a son of George and Erma (Middleton) Swen, was born on January 3, 1923 in Gilby. He was reared and educated in the area. After Bub completed his education he worked for area farmers. On March 29, 1943 he entered the US Navy. He was honorably discharged on February 7, 1946. Bub returned to Gilby and went on to graduate from Union Commercial Business College June 1, 1948 in Grand Forks. In 1955 he became the Postmaster in Gilby. On November 7, 1972 he was married to Gladys Sime in Grand Forks. He retired in 1987. They moved to Grand Forks in 1989. Gladys passed away on December 29, 1997. Bub has resided there since. He enjoyed golfing, listening to classical music and attending UND men’s & women’s Basketball games. He is survived by, a sister Floy Schmidt of Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Olive Swen of Grand Forks; a stepdaughter Carol Buck of Arizona; a stepson David Sime of Colorado; nephews, Bill Schmidt, Dan Schmidt and Kevin Swen; nieces, Sheri Swen and Shauna Nelson; 3 great nieces; a great nephew and one great-great niece. Bub was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eric and a nephew, John Schmidt.
