Description	:	SALEM - Roland L. John, age 88, of Grace Woods Manor, formerly of 5154 Woodsdale Road, Salem, died at 2:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 at Grace Woods Manor in Salem. He was born March 4, 1920, in Salem Township to Leroy and Elizabeth (Sell) John. He retired in 1988 after 40 years of farming and had previously worked for Dr. Liggett for 25 years. John, age 88, of Grace Woods Manor, formerly of 5154 Woodsdale Road, Salem, died at 2:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 at Grace Woods Manor in Salem. He was born March 4, 1920, in Salem Township to Leroy and Elizabeth (Sell) John. He retired in 1988 after 40 years of farming and had previously worked for Dr. Liggett for 25 years. He also served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Mr. John was a 1938 graduate of Salem High School, a member of the Winona Methodist Church, a 60-year member of the Salem Grange and a charter member of the Winona Ruritans. He was a member of the Columbiana County Antique Tractors Association and enjoyed hunting and collecting antique tractors. His wife, Gladys (Holmes) John, whom he married July 27, 1941, preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2003. A sister, Hazel Herron also preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Rosellen) John and Richard (Lynn) John, both of Salem; three daughters, Carol E. (Larry) Messer of Salem, Lorean E. (Charles) Ford of Hanoverton and Sandra L. Stiffler of Lisbon; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 6 to 8p.m. on Thursday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Winona Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodsdale Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Salem VFW Post 892 and the Salem AMVETS Post 45 Burial Group.
