Peck, son of James and Betsey (Sheldon) Peck, was born January 1, 1849 at Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont, and died at his home in Roland, October 9, 1930, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 8 days, after an illness of several months. While a young boy he came with his parents to Tama County in 1856. He was married in 1871 to Miss Eldora Grace at Belle Plaine. To this union six children were born: Mrs. C.H. Beach of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. I.M. Nereim of Belleview, Minnesota; Ray of Roland; Willard of Forest City; and Charles and Mrs. Will Holmes who are deceased. Mr. Peck came to Story County in 1884 and with the exception of a few years spent in other places, most of his married life has been spent in Story County, the last several years he lived in and near Roland. His first wife died June 17, 1896, and in 1904 at Albia he was married to Mrs. Sarah A. Graham of Albia, who with the four children, 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, survive him as does his two brothers, Sheldon Peck of Blair, Nebraska, and John Peck of McCallsburg; and two half-brothers, James Peck of Marion, Iowa, and Frank Peck of Canova, South Dakota; a half-sister, Mrs. Millard Countryman of Winfield, Kansas. Three brothers preceded him in death – Charles who died while in the army during the Siege of Vicksburg, Horace and Fred. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the home in Roland at 1 o’clock in charge of Rev. Olaf Holen and at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church in McCallsburg in charge of Rev. Benthin of Nevada, assisted by Rev. Holen. Interment took place in the McCallsburg Cemetery.
