Romanza Sharp answered the call, he having been ill for quite a period of time with pneumonia. Mr. Sharp's relatives and friends believed that he would pull through the sickness until the middle of the week when there was a relapse, his advanced age being against him in the unequal battle for life. The deceased was a native of New York, having been born in Herkimer county on November 27, 1838. In the spring of 1855 he moved to Illinois, locating at Colma (Coloma?). He was united in marriage to Miss Samantha Emma Kirkpatrick on the 18th day of March, 1861. Six children were born to the union: Emma Anetta, who passed away at an early period in life; and five sons, all of whom are living. In the spring of 1879, Mr. Sharp located his family at the point southeast of Phillips where he resided until death claimed him, being 78 years, 1 month and 15 days of age. The deceased was well acquainted with the cost in hardship and trials that came with the earlier development of the country. He, like many in this section, remained when it seemed that it would be almost impossible to get through the winter owing to the shortage of crops which came through the pests that visited the country in early days. Mr. Sharp was a man of clean habits, and was honest in his dealings with fellowmen. Besides his five sons, William N., Jesse R., James L., Frank H., and Benjamin W., a brother, L. M. Sharp, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick and a number of grandchildren are left to mourn his departure. The funeral services were conducted from the Phillips M. E. church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. E. O. Johnson, pastor of the church, being in charge. At the close of the services the remains were taken to the Phillips cemetery and laid to rest beside those of his companion who passed away several years ago.
