He was born May 16, 1942 at Norfolk, NE to John and Nellie (Spencer) Osterloh. The family lived for a short time in Ansley, NE before moving to Delta, CO. At the age of 10, Ron moved with his family to Wahoo. Because the family had limited financial resources, Ron and his siblings helped out when they could, clearing weeds from tomato fields and various other jobs, their earnings going to help support the family. Despite what may have seemed to others as hardships, Ron enjoyed a happy childhood and held fond, lifelong memories of his early days, especially those spent in Delta. On July 22, 1964 he enlisted in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge July 7, 1966 having served in Vietnam. Following his military service, Ron labored during the construction of the elevators in Mead and Cedar Bluffs, and worked at the ammunitions plant in Mead. He spent most of his life as a welder at the Fruehauf/LBT Company, a skill he learned on his own. Not only did Ron become an expert welder, he developed the ability to build just about anything, often using recycled building materials. Ron used these abilities to selflessly help other people. His kindness and generosity extended well beyond his family, to friends, neighbors, and anyone else in need of help. In 2005, Ron and his fiancÈ, Sheila Otto, embarked on a 3,000 mile, multi-state trek in Sheilaís 1997 Volkswagon which they chronicled with over 500 photographs. The couple visited national historic landmarks, visited family, and made many happy memories enjoyed by both Sheila and Ron, who by this time had been diagnosed with lung cancer and knew his remaining time was limited. Throughout the next year and a half, Ron fought a courageous battle with his illness, remaining cheerful and thinking of otherís needs to the very end. He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle, Pete Osterloh. He is survived by his spouse Sheila Otto of Wahoo; stepdaughters LaWanna (Stacey) Subbert of Wahoo and Lisa (Michael) Jaskulski of Wahoo; grandchildren Dustin, Jacob, Dylan, Dakota and Hannah, all of Wahoo; brothers Henry Osterloh of Colorado, James Osterloh of Escondido, CA, Leroy (Vicky) Osterloh of Eddyville, IA; sisters Laverna ìTootieî Bates of El Jebel, CO, Larene ìRedî Whelan of Wahoo; and 20 nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 20 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo with the Rev. Patrick Marshall officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ed Osterloh, Stacey Subbert, Michael Jaskulski, LeeJay Bates, and Patrick Mathis. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Military Honors Team. Memorials are suggested to Family Choice.
