Description	:	Ronald Dobry was born July 2, 1933, at his grandmother's house in Verdigre, the only child of Edward and Elsie Dobry. He attended school at the Cottonwood Row District No. 27 school at Jelen. He went to high school in Verdigre, graduating in 1950. Following graduation, Ron went to Lincoln and attended college for the next five years. The first year he majored in journalism, but the next he switched to English, and in his third year to a double major of English and German. Read More	Ronald Dobry was born July 2, 1933, at his grandmother's house in Verdigre, the only child of Edward and Elsie Dobry. He attended school at the Cottonwood Row District No. 27 school at Jelen. He went to high school in Verdigre, graduating in 1950. Following graduation, Ron went to Lincoln and attended college for the next five years. The first year he majored in journalism, but the next he switched to English, and in his third year to a double major of English and German. He made the decision to major in German rather than English and this led to a scholarship in New York after he received his Masters degree at UNL. The next eight years were spent in New York City. He was just three hours short of earning his doctorate when he left New York City and returned to Verdigre, in 1963, to take care of his mother who had been diagnosed with cancer. Four years after his father's death, in 1977, he purchased a house in the north part of Verdigre. Ron had begun work on Verdigre's history and ,eventually, became the compiler of Verdigre's Centennial Book in 1987. He was also a member of the ZCBJ Lodge, a trustee of the Bohemian National Cemetery Board at Jelen, secretary of the Verdigre Heritage Museum Board, secretary of the Food Pantry, secretary of the Centennial Committee, and an officer of the Verdigre Development Corporation.
