Ronald graduated from Onslow High School in 1952 and attended the Iowa State Teacher's College. He then became a veteran of the U.S. Army earning the rank of corporal. He married Carol Alice Stickley on November 27, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1975. He married Sherri Jo Wells Hicks on July 21, 1977 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After receiving an honorable discharge, Ronald worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa briefly, and then became a farmer, farming the Clay Township family farm. He spent his entire life on the multigenerational family farm. Ronald was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Onslow, American Legion Post #259 of Wyoming and the Jones County Cattlemen's Association. He had served as a Clay Township Trustee and as the secretary/treasurer of the Clay Cemetery Association. Ronald loved his family first and foremost. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching sports. Ronald Dwight Reid, age 76, passed away on Wednesday morning; July 14, 2010 at the Saint Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids; Linn County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Sherri Jo Reid of Onslow, Iowa; his sons: Mark (Mary) Reid of Wyoming, Iowa; Dwight (Ann) Reid of Onslow, Iowa; Curtis (Lynette) Reid of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Bryon (Heidi) Hicks of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Scott Hicks of Maquoketa, Iowa. His seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His two sisters: Wanda Becker of Maquoketa, Iowa and Mary (Peter) Doyle of Bella Vista, Arkansas. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife: Carol. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday; July 18, 2010 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Monday; July 19, 2010 at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Interment will be at the Clay Cemetery in Onslow; Jones County, Iowa where full military rites will be accorded. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Clay Cemetery Association. The Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.
