Mr Blong, Iowa City, died at his residence on Dec. 1. Ronald E. Blong was born at Mason City on Oct. 17, 1947, the son of Marcus and Marcella Hayek Blong. He received his education at the Mason City schools, and graduated from Newman High School in 1966. He later served in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge from the military, Ronald attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. On Feb. 12, 1977, Mr. Blong married Nancy Paulsen at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in the Iowa City area. Ronald continued to work for his degree, and also woked as a postal clerk. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1981. He had recently been working as a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City. He is survived by his wife; his parent; three brothers, Robert Blong and Mark Blong of Maryland; four sisters, Sr. Diana Blong of Monticello, Minn., Gloria Blong of Topeka, Kan., Debbie Blong of Reno, Nev., and Patti Cogburn of Glennwood, Ark.; and his paternal grandfather, Carl Blong of Ft. Atkinson. Casketbearers were Craig Decker, Curt Paulsen, David Paulsen, Steven Paulsen, Tom Paulsen and Robert Hines. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
