He was born Oct. 11, 1941, to Henry and Violet Huffman Groenewald Sr. He married Barbara Tennison on Dec. 14, 1986. She preceded him in death June 2, 2001. An Ottumwa High School graduate, he served in the United States Air Force for 28 years retiring in 1986 as a master sergeant. An Ottumwa High School graduate, he served in the United States Air Force for 28 years retiring in 1986 as a master sergeant. He returned to Ottumwa where he had last worked for Ajinomoto at Eddyville. Surviving are his daughter, Patti Clouser of Ottumwa; s on, Thomas Lewis of Ottumwa; and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry “Dan” Groenewald Jr. and Otto “Dick” Groenewald. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shaul Cemetery with the Rev. David Dunning officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Walter B. Shafer Post 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post 3 of the American Legion who will also serve as casket bearers. Visitation begins after 10 a.m. today at the Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the family.
