Ronald Eugene Krause was born on January 6, 1935 in Castlewood, SD to Marvin and Henrietta (Koenders) Krause. He lived around the Castlewood and Estelline area and at the age of 13 he went to live with his Grandparents and Uncle Bernard until he graduated from school in 1954. He worked at the elevator in Clear Lake and later went to Waltham, MN to work for Cargill, Inc. He met and was married to Ilah Stevenson. To this union three children were born: Michael, Mark and Jodi. They later separated and Ron was transferred to Cargill in Royal, IA. Ron met Esther Schmidt at a dance and were married on October 13, 1979. Ron worked for Cenex in Clear Lake for 10 years and later ran his own roto-rooting business until his health started failing which required open heart surgery in 1998. After recovering Ron did small jobs. Ron and Esther worked side by side with their flowers, big garden and at church where Esther was the custodian. Ron loved to go dancing and ride horses. Ron enjoyed going on wagon trains with the McCrossan Boys Ranch and Walt Schaffer. One of Ron’s proudest moments is when he drove the lead wagon in the Clear Lake Centennial parade. Ron was in the National Guard and was active member of the American Legion along with being an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ron is survived by his wife Esther; his sons: Michael, Minneapolis, MN and Mark, Longmont, CO, and his daughter, Jodi, also in CO; two sisters: Marge (Loren) Schleuter, Estelline, SD and Kathy “Tootie” Haskamp, Maple Grove, MN; one brother, Doug, Arvada, CO; two step-children: Marjorie (Michael) Arnold, San Antonio, TX and Robert Schmidt, Clear Lake, SD; two sisters-in-law: Joan (Ron) Meyers, Revillo, SD and Joyce (Joe) Krause, Clear Lake, SD; and step-daughter-in-law, Laura, Rapid City, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Larry and Joe; and by his step-son, Michael Schmidt.
