Description	:	Ronald Kieth Sietsema was born June 24, 1933 in Eldora, Iowa to Harvey and Grace Sietsema. He was baptized and later confirmed at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ackley. He graduated from Ackley High School with the Class of 1951. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Navy onboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer, during the Korean War. He was baptized and later confirmed at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ackley. He graduated from Ackley High School with the Class of 1951. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Navy onboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer, during the Korean War. Honorably discharged in 1954, he returned home and began working as a salesman for the Schoeneman Implement and Car Dealership. On January 31, 1957 he was united in marriage to Sharon Freese of Ackley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Jeffrey Mark, Chad Reagan, and Piper Sheri. After their marriage Ron and Sharon lived in Ackley until 1961, and then moved to Northwood where they owned and operated "Ron's Drive-In" for nine years. Ron worked for Worth Mutual Insurance, and for 35 years he was a realtor for Van Sabben Realty, and later for Top of Iowa Realty. Ron also worked for Streater's of Albert Lea as an over-the-road long distance driver for 24 years. He valued spending time with his family and five grandsons, whom he always called his "Dream Team." A member of the United Methodist Church in Northwood, he served on several committees. He was a volunteer fireman for the Northwood Fire Department for many years, served on the city council, was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6779, and was a member of the Elks' Lodge. Ron enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado until the age of 73, which he was forced to abandon due to his deteriorating eyesight. He enjoyed golfing, and in 1987 he shot a ‘hole-in-one' at the Northwood Golf Course. Ron had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and he travelled extensively in the western United States on his H-D Electra Glide. In 2001 Ron and Sharon toured five European countries on motorcycle. An avid hunter, he hunted pheasants locally, and made many trips to western states to hunt various game. On one such trip he returned home with a black bear which he considered to be his trophy. He also enjoyed horseback riding. All of these activities were treasured all the more when experienced with family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sharon "Shari" Sietsema of Northwood; a son Chad (Christine) Sietsema of Rochester, Minnesota; a daughter Piper (Tony) Manatt of De Witt, Iowa; five grandchildren, Benjamin Sietsema of Minneapolis, Phillip Sietsema of Rochester, Hans (Katy) Sleichter of Boston, Massachusetts, Beau Manatt and Hunter Manatt, both of De Witt. Also surviving are his two brothers, Gordon (Merna) Sietsema of Hampton, Iowa, and Orville (Liz) Sietsema of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; as well as other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Jeffrey Mark Sietsema.
