Blume, 83, of Cumberland, presently residing at Dawnview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, passed away at the facility on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016. Born, in Cumberland, on Dec. 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Frank Carl and Ressie Leona (Twigg) Blume. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite K. (Harper) Blume; brother, Clayton "Bud" Blume; sisters, Pauline Weltman and Jeanette Blume. Ron was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1951. Following high school, Ron served his country in the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the Army, Ron received a certificate in drafting from Columbia Technical Institute. Ron was employed as a draftsman at ABL, and he was a tire builder at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, where he worked for 22 years. After retiring from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Ron received a certificate in computer aided design from Allegany College of Maryland. He was then employed at ABL, until his retirement. Ron was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of Ohr Lodge 131 A.F. & A.M. He recently received his 50 year membership award from the organization. Ron was also a member of the Cumberland Moose and the American Legion, Ft. Cumberland Post 13. Ron is survived by his daughter, Kathy L. Blume, Cumberland; son, Ronald L. Blume II and wife, Barbara Ann Blume, Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie Katelyn Lachance, Lancaster, Pa., Jon-Luke Lachance, Corvallis, Ore., Jessica Michelle Blume, Plano, and Jared Scott Blume, Plano. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. The member of Queen City Lodge 131 will conduct their memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Ron's nephew, the Rev. R. Edward "Ed" Flaskamp officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Park. Ron loved his country as he knew it growing up, and said he was very disturbed as to the way it is now at the time of his death. He believed change was good as long as it was for the good of the majority of the citizens, but not for the sake of change itself, nor for the benefit of only the minority.
